Charity

“In a word: charity cannot be neutral, antiseptic, indifferent, lukewarm or impartial! Charity is infections, it excites, it risks and it engages!' (Pope Francis)

Through engaging in charity and outreach work we enable our pupils to put their faith in to action and actively demonstrate compassion and solidarity with those less fortunate. It provides our pupils with valuable opportunities to develop empathy, generosity and a sense of social responsibility. By fundraising for charity, collecting donations for the local food bank and giving to those in need, our students are able to learn the importance of giving back to their community and serving others with a spirit of love and humility. The Religious Education department and the wider school community led by the Liturgy Leaders and our Lay Chaplain co-ordinate the schools’ service to the community - local, national and international.

Furthermore, engaging in charity and outreach work allows our school to live out the Gospel message of caring for the marginalised and the vulnerable members of our society. By actively reaching out to those in needs we are true witnesses to Christ's love and mercy. Through our charity and outreach efforts, we are able to foster a culture of service and generosity within our school community, while also making a positive impact on the wider world.

Pupils live out our Catholic Social Teaching by supporting those in need, developing compassion, and strengthening links with the wider community. Annual charity events can be found in the school calendar. Tackling social issues means upholding the dignity of all people, opposing discrimination, and prioritising the poor and marginalised. Faith is lived not only through prayer and worship but also through concrete action that builds a more just and compassionate society.  For example we have several Foodbank drives, cake sales for various charities, visits from Cafod and Aid to the Church in Need and visits from the Jimmy Mizen foundation.

Our Adoremus Choir and Sixth Formers bring festive cheer each year to commuters at Northfields Station, singing Christmas carols and raising significant contributions for Shooting Star, a children’s hospice.  Our summer community afternoon tea and Christmas Community Parties brings together vulnerable people from our local community.  We live out the  Catholic Social Teaching of Solidarity through these events.  Our Community parties allow us to join together as one family and community to help others. We come together to have fun, share food, and care for each other. We invite members of the community from local groups of vulnerable people to show our kindness, love and care for them.

Our summer production of Godspell brought together all year groups- working together on production, set design, costumes, and acting.  We lived out the Catholic Social Teaching of the dignity of work and participation.  Together the students worked to put on the most fantastic school production of ‘Godspell Jr’.  The show highlighted the importance of community, fellowship, and being part of a caring group.  ‘Godspell Jr’ focused on the inherent worth of every person — everyone deserves respect and love, just as Jesus teaches.

It is imperative that no one...indulge in a merely individualistic morality. The best way to fulfill one's obligations of justice and love is to contribute to the common good according to one's means and the needs of others, and also to promote and help public and private organizations devoted to bettering the conditions of life. -Gaudium et Spes ("The Church in the Modern World"), Vatican II, 1965 #30
