Co-curricular
Gunnersbury is rightly proud of the outstanding contributions our Sixth Form students make to the school and the wider community. Alongside their academic studies, students are encouraged to take part in opportunities that develop key skills for future employment while enriching their cultural, moral, social, spiritual, economic and health education.
This year saw the launch of the school’s first-ever girls’ netball team, competing against other Sixth Form teams across the borough and already celebrating winning success. Many students also take part in our early morning fitness club, training and building resilience before the school day begins. Beyond school, Sixth Formers volunteer at Mount Carmel Primary School, inspiring and supporting younger pupils, and at Maryville Care Home, offering companionship to members of our senior community. In addition, our dedicated Wellbeing Ambassadors play a vital role within the school, offering guidance and support to younger students who may need a helping hand.
An integral element in nurturing our senior students is the work that we do to recognise and celebrate successes and achievements. Each Sixth Former has an opportunity to become a Prefect (Year 12) or Senior Prefect (Year 13). Their responsibilities are to represent student opinion on the Senior School Council, lower School Council and Prefect Team, working with Heads of Year and Form Tutors to play an active role in the development of our Sixth Form and in its’ day to day management and in supporting many key aspects of the whole school community. This is a most challenging and rewarding role.
In the autumn and summer terms, students are nominated by subject staff to receive one of the school ‘colours’ in recognition of contributions made to their academic studies, the life of the Sixth Form or the school as a whole. Colours are awarded in a very special Assembly, led by senior staff and are awarded in the following fields : citizenship, academic achievement, achievement in the arts and achievement in sports.
Opportunities to strengthen senior student's personal and leadership skills and to increase their employability and economic well-being are available through a range of accredited activities including :
