Charity Walk

Sixth Form raise over £2,500 for charity

The weather conditions were perfect for the annual Sixth Form Charity Walk, which took place on Wednesday 2nd July.  There was no need for brollies or raincoats as over 400 Year 12 students from Gunnersbury, St Marks and Gumley House happily pounded the streets of West London, raising over £2,500 for a range of charities.  Supported by staff from all three Catholic schools, who acted as marshals along the route, the students were easily recognisable in their bright orange t-shirts, which detailed the names of all those taking part, as well as a handy map of the route !

The fun began, as is tradition, at Gunnersbury and the walkers wound their way through Brentford Lock, Syon Park and towards the River Thames at Isleworth, where, having crossed at Richmond Bridge, they headed along the towpath towards Kew Gardens.  From Kew Bridge, the final stage took students through Brentford, reaching their final destination, back at Gunnersbury, where the smells and tastes of a summer barbecue rewarded all those who took part.  Mr Hrywniak, who organised the walk said : ‘I was so pleased with the arrangements and everything went swimmingly well.  I’m thankful to all the staff at Gunnersbury, St Marks and Gumley for supporting, yet again, this wonderful event.  Most of all, I am very proud of all of the Year 12 students who bought their t-shirts and walked the 12km to support our charities. People were talking about it all week, there was such a buzz.’
