Gunnersbury musicians perform for the Royal College of Music
Gunnersbury pupils once again triumphed in the annual Royal College of Music Composing and Performing Competition. Over the course of 5 weekends, Daragh Callan (11 Pole), Edoardo Sirolla (10 Dunstan), Jack O’Donnell (11 Dunstan), Michael Moore (10 Roche), Alfie Keep (10 Roche) and Tristan Thompson (11 Pole) were given the opportunity to harness their music writing skills by working closely with renowned composer Rachel Leach and musicians from the Royal College of Music in South Kensington. The process enabled our musicians to work alongside graduate composers from the Royal College in order to develop their understanding of different approaches to composition. They were then invited to apply what they had learned and to compose an original piece of music. Students from over 30 schools across London competed to secure one of a handful of compositions to be performed at a specially commissioned concert at the Recital Hall of the Royal College and the works composed by Edoardo, Alfie and Tristan were selected. The cherry on the icing on the cake was Tristan receiving a special invitation to perform his composition on stage alongside professional RCM musicians. Well done and congratulations to our outstanding young musicians !
