£1,200 raised by the school community to help typhoon victims
Typhoon Haiyan was 300 miles across when it struck the Philippines in the first week of November, bringing torrential rain and winds of over 195mph that devastated communities. In just over 2 weeks, Gunnersbury pupils, their families and staff have raised £1,800 to support an appeal launched for people affected by the typhoon. Thanks to the remarkable generosity of the school community, the donation that we have made to the Disasters Emergency Committee Philippines Typhoon Appeal will provide aid such as food, clean water and sanitation, emergency shelter and medical care to more than 11 million people who have had their lives torn apart. Survivors of the disaster desperately need a huge amount of help both now and in the months to come, and the monies that pupils from across all year groups have raised - through a range of events and activities - will literally support people to rebuild their lives.
