Catholic Schools Cup 2013

Our young sportsmen end the year in great style
Gunnersbury emerged victorious in this year’s Catholic School Cup, a key sporting event which is open to Catholic secondary schools in West London. Covering a range of disciplines across Years 7 to 9, pupils compete in track and field athletics, as well as in volleyball and tennis. Our Year 7 boys took gold in athletics, volleyball and tennis; Year 8s won the volleyball and tennis contests convincingly, with all members of each team performing superbly against stiff competition. Our Year 9s were narrowly beaten to top spot in athletics, but gave a great account of themselves in the tennis and volleyball competitions. With all competitions across all year groups accounted for, Gunnersbury accumulated 327 points to take first place, ahead of London Oratory, Cardinal Vaughan and Wimbledon College, amongst others. All of the boys involved were a credit to the school, and a number of standout performances came from 9 Pole’s Gavin Pendlebury (Montpellier Primary School) in the 1500m, 8 Dunstan’s Victor Thomas (Wendell Park Primary) in the 1500m, 9 Warren’s Toby Sibbick (St Lawrence RC Primary) in the high jump, 8 Roche’s Steven Cairns (St Vincents, Marylebone) in the 800m and to the Year 8 tennis team of Tom Hier (Mount Carmel RC Primary), Jonah Modley (Little Ealing Primary), Martin Nasevski (Good Shepherd Primary) and Luca Pisano (St Gregory’s Primary).
