Martial Arts

"Gunnersbury Catholic School is a thriving, vibrant and caring learning community within which pupils are stretched intellectually and foster a love of learning, whilst feeling valued, happy and safe" (OFSTED)

Gunnersbury's Martial Arts Club is a highly popular pre-school and after school club that offers practice in a number of Japanese martial arts.  The club has a long tradition of producing very capable students of both Judo and Aikido – former Gunnersbury pupil, Aaron Turner, taking the gold medal in his category, under 66kg, at the 2012 Commonwealth Judo Championships.

The club offers a range of classes for both beginners and advanced students, young and old and we are fortunate to have the support of qualified instructors from Osterley and Ealing Judo Clubs who bring a large amount of experience that makes the sessions both fun and safe.

The school’s Martial Arts Club not only focuses on competitive disciplines, but also aims to develop its members into fully rounded participants by offering a comprehensive study of all aspects of Judo and Aikido.

The club provides equally for those who want to partake recreationally as those that want to compete to the highest level.  Many members have achieved National, Commonwealth and even Olympic level status, although the club aims to provide a sporting discipline that not only brings participants a specific sports skill but also a disciplined mind and body to take forward for the rest of their lives.

New members are always welcome - keep an eye on the PE noticeboard for details.
